Want to Reduce Travel Expenses for a Low Budget Trip? Read Step by Step Guide to Travel at Low Cost in 2020 - Travel Blog

Welcome to Varma Telugu Traveller Travel Blog.

5 years back I was started Solo Travelling. I'm a middle-class person who can't afford even Basic expenses but I love Travelling, especially Travelling alone. Some of my friends and family members were used to ask me, how you travel alone and why? cant you feel bored by being alone?

I simply smile and tell them "I Love my company better than anyone. I learned to be happy with myself in any situation." So, now here I am sharing the information that how to Travel at Low Cost in India step by step.

Step 1:  Plan entire Trip perfectly

Plan your entire trip one and a half or 2 months before your date of Journey. Plan the number of days, places to visit, Type of Transportation, Accommodation, Approximate Food expenses, Places to avoid visiting and Entry Ticket costs of Tourist places. Now you have a perfect plan for the entire trip and total budget for your trip.

Step 2: Reduce your Transportation Expenses

Whenever I plan a trip, the first thing that comes to me is how can I travel at low cost to reach my destination with a very affordable price for a low budget trip.

Almost every Tourist places in India were well connected with public and private transportation but I used to search the cheapest and comfortable way to travel the entire trip. Mostly I choose Trains to reduce travel expenses for a low budget trip.

Sleeper Coach Train tickets are very affordable and relaxingly travel at low cost to reach your destination. I used to book Train tickets before one and a half or 2 months of the date of my journey. I never use Private transportation and also govt buses for my long journeys. Avoid Autos and other private transportation to visit local tourist places and try to use govt buses or any apps like Uber, Ola etc which have high offers. I used Rapido for Chennai Trip and almost I saved half amount of local visiting because of offers in Rapido.

Step 3: Reduce your Accommodation Expenses

Whenever you book accommodation make it the right place near to all local tourist places to reduce transportation charges. Search for the cheap and best accommodation as you will not stay the entire time at room. You may spend most of your time exploring and need room to secure belongings and for sleeping. So try to use Local Hostels, Railway Retiring Rooms, Dormitory Rooms and Lodges that cost a lesser price.

I mentioned before to book train tickets 2 months before the trip to Transportation, It helps you to reduce your accommodation charges by booking Railway Retiring rooms. Railway retiring rooms are very cheap and best accommodation but rooms are only available if you book before 2 or 3 months for some Tourist places. I spent just 120 rs per day for A/C Hut in Kanyakumari and 200 rs for a double bedroom in Rameshwaram which are very cheap and even most secure with Railway Polices and Surveillance cameras.

Step 4: Tourist Places to Visit and Avoid

Plan local tourist places to visit before you reach your tourist destination. Perfectly plan the places you want to visit each and every day and Places to avoid visiting. Visiting some places will be like wasting time and money. I faced this situation when I went to Kanyakumari Trip. I was perfectly planned my trip before reaching Kanyakumari. I did all as per my plan but on last day I did a mistake by listening to one auto wala which was wasted my half day time and 1000 rs. He said that there is a beautiful dam named Pechiparai dam newly constructed. I simply listened to him because I don't have a mobile signal to search on the Internet, so i listened to him and went there. I felt ashamed of myself for trusting that Auto Wala. Pechiparai is just a Reservoir between some huge ghats and nothing special or looks beautiful. He scammed me just for his Auto fare. So don't trust anyone blindly. If you have any doubts ask Police, Govt Bus Conductors, Person in Govt Offices and to local Shop Keepers.

Step 5:  Food Expenses

I try to reduce every expense to make it a low budget trip but on most of my trips, food expenses will increase more than my planning. I even save money on food expenses. In a big Udipi hotel, they charged me 70 rs per Dosa but in a small hotel, they charged me just 25 rs and that was almost the same quality and taste of 70 rs Dosa. Then I realised that doesn't trust the outlook, just get in and feel it better. Search or ask locals for the best small hotels near you. Reach their and see the hygienist and if you feel ok then enjoy it.

I went to a small hotel located on the right side to the opposite main road of the Kanyakumari Railway station. Their hygiene and taste were much better than the big hotels I went to before and the cost is very less. I paid just 30 rs for 6 Idly. If possible support small business.

Step 6: Avoid Alcohol and Smoking

If you have a habit of drinking and smoking then try to avoid it and save your money. I personally have seen some of my friends went to Goa and they just spent 3days for drinking and just sleeping in Room. Due to that tiredness of alcohol they only saw a few places. If you are a Solo Traveller then you avoid this habit in the journey. Smoking causes overheating your body and it may create illness and wastes your valuable time.

Whatever I am sharing in this travel blog is from my experience of travelling in low budget. As a middle-class person, I always try to save every rupee as possible. Please feel to comment that If you have any suggestions or ideas to reduce travel costs.
