Gurramgadda - Island in Telangana, Miserable life of people in Gurram Gadda Village

Gurramgadda - One and only Island in Telangana, Near to the Capital city, Hyderabad but far away from the basic needs.

Gurramgadda Island is the only island in Telangana state, located in Gadwal Taluk of Mahboobnagar district in Telangana, India. Gurramgadda Island is situated 18 km away from district headquarter Gadwal and nearly 200 km from the Telangana state Capital Hyderabad City but this Island is too far away from the basic needs. Most of the people in Telangana state doesn't even know that there was a beautiful Island in the Krishna river doesn't have basic facilities.

Gurramgadda

Gurramgadda - A Neglected marvellous Island:

Gurram gadda Island is a thousand acres area formed in the middle of Krishna River. Prior to Independence to India in 1947, the people of Gurramgadda Island faced the miserable situation of crossing the river with "PUTTI" or "THETTA" (A circular carrier made with wood). since independence, State governments have been giving assurances to people of Gurramgadda village for a long time. In 2009 Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy government sanctioned an Rs. 2.40 crores for the construction of walkway Bridge to Gurramguda. after the 2009 elections, the construction of bridges to Gurramgadda island has been postponed. In 2014 authorities have put forward a new proposal of single line bridge instead of walkway bridge. If the government develops the Gurram gadda Island sure it will be one of best tourist place in Telangana state.

Gurramgadda Island Situation after Telangana state formation:

TRS party came to government after the formation of Telangana state. The government was provided with a Power Boat to Gurramgadda people to cross the Krishna river. They don't even have Life Jackets and they are crossing the river with zero safety measures. On 2018 Telangana CM KCR announced in a public meeting held at Gadwal, that a bridge will be constructed for the transportation of Gurramgadda people. A preliminary assessment was made at that time but again the construction was postponed.

Gurramgadda Situation in Hyderabad floods 2020:

In October 2020, Telangana state has experienced unprecedented rainfall and many places in Telangana state were drowned in a massive flood. Krishna river has filled with a huge amount of floodwater. One Local person repeatedly warned me to not to cross the river in a powerboat. Even in that massive floods, the people of Gurramgadda were crossing the Krishna River without life jackets.

Transportation to Gurram gadda village:

Powerboat is the only transportation facility available for Gurram gadda village. They carry two-wheelers from Gurram gadda island to Beerole village using powerboat. Every material for construction, Agricultural equipment, agriculture pesticides etc is carried in a powerboat. After 6:30 pm powerboat was halted at Gurram gadda island and powerboat will only available after sunrise.

Education & Medical Facilities in Gurramgadda:

Gurram gadda village has Primary school and students need to cross the Krishna River on powerboat for higher education. These kids were crossing the river without life jackets. we debate on Fire safety in schools and safety of Children in school buses but these poor children were risking their lives every day to reach the school.
Gurramgadda has Government Dawakana (small Hospital) and the medical team has to come to this island in a powerboat to treat the sick people. Pregnant women on this island are shifted to other villages of their relatives. In rainy season this Villagers struggles will be more. Snakes are very high on this island. Imagine how tough their regular lifestyle. No one has time to support these Villagers, even in this 2020's they don't have basic needs.

Its became an adventure for me to reach Gurramgadda village. I searched in google maps for Gurram gadda and it showed me a route of 8km stretch from the NH 44 main road. I have blindly followed the google maps and moved on the mud road between the Agricultural fields. After crossing a few kilometres on a mud road between beautiful green lands I asked the locals to how to reach Gurram gadda. Gurram Gadda needs Your Support:

The bridge construction to Gurram Gadda is only possible In summer season due to low water level. If the government doesn't start the work this summer than again these villagers have to wait till 2022 summer and their struggles will continue. Many people in Telangana have never heard about Gurramgadda Island and their strugglings. So we request you please spread the struggles of Gurramgadda Villagers to everyone and make it viral. Maybe after that our government officials may respond and help these Villagers. We request you kindly share this information and support GurramGadda.
